I call my work soul-selfies. Whereas people today are taking pictures of themselves with their phones, I am documenting snapshots of defining moments through mixed-medium assemblages and sculptures. My work explores conditions and circumstances, sustainability and the untenable, resilience and vulnerability and how fragile life can be.
Working with powdered pigments, spray paint, modeling medium, tracing and cardboard paper my approach is grounded in the unexpected, spontaneity, chance and experimentation. Working with various mediums, I set out with an idea which sometimes goes off course. I welcome the unanticipated and comfortable with the risks and failures. My best discoveries and successes are outcomes from just letting go and not forcing the materials or ideas. The joy and excitement of producing art, for me, comes from the unpredictable.
